Reese Witherspoon feetLaura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born March 22, 1976) is an American actress. She has received numerous accolades including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Time magazine named her one of the top 100 influential people in the world in both 2006 and 2015 and Forbes included her in the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2021 and 2019. In 2021, Forbes named her the world's richest actress with an estimated fortune of $400 million.Witherspoon began her career at the age of a teenager, making her debut as a screen actress with The Man in the Moon (1991). Her breakout came in 1999 after an appearance in Cruel Intentions, and for her role as Tracy Flick in the black comedy Election. The actress gained more attention for portraying Elle Woods in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its 2003 sequel, and for starring in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002). She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a dip in her career, with her only box-office achievement was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback with the production and role of Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014) in which she earned her a second nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Since then, she's been primarily involved in television productions. She has also appeared in a number of female-led literary adaptations. These include the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) and The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) and the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first one. She directed the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as and Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James clothing company and is involved in advocacy organizations for children and women. She is on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was honoured to be the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's foundation's charitable cause for women in 2007.
